Our Philosophy & Values
Mind In Sync launched with the goal of serving at the forefront of mental health service provision across the areas of advocacy, research and practice. The importance of adopting a broadened scope to practice is necessary, as mental health transcends across various histories, cultures, communities, families, and individuals. There is no blanket-approach or way in addressing mental health needs and treatment.
Rather each individual, group, and community have their own capacity in reaching what they define as their optimal self and being. Thus, mental health is in many ways defined by underpinning biopsychosocial mechanisms that are constantly changing and evolving. Consequently, mental health should be understood from a holistic and clinical perspective, with a focus on helping individuals achieve their desired potential that promotes a lifestyle balance and contributes to their well-being in a way that promotes both acceptance and change.
Our Core Values - A Cultural Humility Framework
Openness
Openness is vital for transparency. Openness requires us to be interpersonally reflective by encouraging us to understand the perspectives of others and ourselves. We strive to be open in all our client and stakeholder relationships to foster effective working partnerships and honesty.
Respect
Respect is essential to all working relationships. It begins by viewing the other person as worthwhile and as having inherent human dignity. While also maintaining that every person is addressed and afforded with unconditional positive regard.
Curiosity
Curiosity is vital in our approach. It is holding and adopting the concept of nonjudgment and humility. We approach all our relationships with clients by adopting a stance of ‘not knowing’, as we do not know everything. We are not the experts on you, you are the expert on yourself. Therefore, it is vital that we are curious in trying to understand your experience and situation from your own perspective. Your voice is important to us and we want to listen.
Accountability
Accountability is the need to take ownership of our own behaviour at a personal, professional, interpersonal, and societal level. Accountability is also recognising our own role as clinicians, consultants, and researchers in acting ethically and in line with best practice.
